It is my pleasure to announce the launch of the “Quest for the Flag” campaign and the www.questfortheflag.com website!
Our goal is to rally together, and rally our friends and family to raise at least $15,000 to win the auction for Roald Amundsen’s Expedition Flag on May 7th, 2009.
This flag is of great symbolic significance not just to the TSW Community, but to the country and citizens of Norway. Roald Amundsen led the first Antarctic Expedition to the South Pole and is also the first person to reach both the North and South Poles. Amundsen was a central figure in the initial reveal and story for “The Secret World.”
This Flag was carried by Amundsen on all his polar expeditions.
When we win this auction, the Flag will be returned to its home in Norway and presented to Ragnar Tørnquist, producer and director of “The Secret World,” and the Funcom TSW Team, to preserve, protect, and provide inspiration for future explorers and dreamers.
Our fund raising efforts will be focused on a single “Money Bomb” day on May 1st, 2009 beginning at 12:01AM EDT (5:01 AM GMT)*.
The questfortheflag.com website has been created to provide a focal point for the campaign. Donations can be made at the website by clicking on the secure “Donate Here!” widget. Donations can also be made at the secure “ChipIn” site HERE.
The website will also provide tools to help us campaign. There is a Graphics Section with pictures of the flag, Amundsen and other ideas to help inspire your creativity.
We need all the help we can get! This is an entirely “grassroots” effort, and depends on each of us to do our part. Get the word out any way you can! Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, Youtube… get creative!
As an added incentive, everyone that contributes to the campaign will get a chance to win some awesome autographed Funcom items**, such as:
- a copy of Dreamfall: TLJ, autographed by producer/director Ragnar Tornquist
- an Age of Conan Comic Book, autographed by original producer Gaute Godager
* Contributions will be securely processed through ChipIn.com and PayPal and held in escrow until the time of the auction. Contributions will be gladly accepted prior to May 1st and up until the day of the auction.
** Autographed items donated by The Cry Gaia Network

This is just great, I’ll donate as soon as I get some money. Also made a blogpost about this, and sent some emails to some norwegian press.
This is very honourable. I am not sure I understand the people behind this, but the flag has no permanent place out of norway.
All good wishes
Hi!
Chipped in with a minor donation of 25 dineros. However, I’d like a question answered – what happens to the money if the auction isn’t won?
Hi Henning!
Thank you for your contribution! We conducted a survey were we asked if people would want the money to go towards another community project, be refunded, or be donated to charity. The most popular response was to have the money go towards another community project. The next most popular response was to issue refunds.
I would like to see the money used on another community project; However, since an alternative project hasn’t been defined, I will issue refunds to those who request it. The refund may not be 100% thought, since PayPal processing fees may not be refundable. I have an email into PayPal requesting clarification on the refunding of fees.
I hope that helps answer your question. If you need any additional information, don’t hesitate to contact me!
Thank you for your support!

That’s a great idea to bring back the flag to Norway. I hope Funcom will donate it to the Fram Museum. This is where most of the objects of the Amundsen story is collected, and it can be viewed but most people. Amundsen Omega3 AS would be glad to support this.
Kind regards

Man,I wish I weren’t broke! I’d chip in any day..but with a baby on the way (4days away), all I can do,is spread the word!
Chipped in with a minor donation on behalf of the cultural web-magazine Påplakaten.no (Norwegian site)
Finally got around to donating, not much, but it’s what I could afford. Hopefully there’ll be a storm of donators soon
